Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail Recipe

The Old Fashioned is one of the world’s oldest known cocktails that dates back to around 200 years ago. But don’t underestimate it’s simplicity. This cocktail might appear simplistic but it’s packed full of depth. When making classic cocktails like the Old Fashioned, Negroni or Tom Collins, it’s important to ensure that you use a top quality spirit as this makes up 90% of the ingredients.

For a classic Old Fashioned recipe we recommend Balvenie 12 year Old for a classic whisky or Maker’s Mark for a Bourbon option.

Old Fashioned Cocktail Ingredients

  • 1 dash sugar syrup or 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • Angostura bitters – 3 dashes
  • 1 dash / teaspoon water
  • 2 ounces Balvenie 12 year Old or Maker’s Mark bourbon
  • Garnish with orange peel

How to make a classic Old Fashioned

Add the sugar, bitters and water into a rocks glass, and stir until sugar is nearly dissolved.
Fill an Old Fashioned glass with ice cubes, add the whisky or bourbon, and gently stir to combine.
Express the oil of an orange peel over the glass, then drop in.
